We changed our District's individual education plan (IEP) software this summer and in the process discovered that there are different IEP components and procedures that we need to emphasize as we train our staff to use this new software. The Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance was identified as an area that needed to be emphasized in our training. All special education staff involved in creating IEP's would be the intended audience for this project. I used a larger screen size of (760x420) because the presentation would be web based and I wanted it to be readable.
I attempted to give the end user as much control as possible in maneuvering through the presentation. I divided up the sections into flash scenes and attempted to design the navigation so that they could skip around as much as possible to find the sections they need as quickly and easily as possible. I spent quite a lot of time designing the background and layout to make the presentation look as clean and professional as possible.
I would give more attention to the graphics in the background, I used web graphics I copied from our district's website.Only recently I found the communication department distributed high quality graphics for use in district materials. If I had more time I would work with the high quality images to create a cleaner background. I would also try to include more images in the presentation that clearly define where in the IEP the PLAAPF statement would need to be documented.
Sound! I had a difficult time adding sound that was not synchronized. In the middle of the explanation section I tried to have four consecutive single frames with long sound bites to accompany them. Sounds often collided and it took a great deal of trouble shooting to solve the problem. It was a struggle to find an acceptable compression for the sound. Rendering the previews took around 5 minutes per preview
