Collaboration
I created my first ILT project in 1998 while I was teaching at a school that was moving from an English as a second language teaching model to a bilingual one. I was taking courses through the Bueno Center at CU Bolder and felt that if staff members just understood the concepts behind bilingual education it could make the transition easier. I was fortunate to be surrounded by colleagues who were willing contribute to the site's content. Contributors were as diverse as classroom educators, support personnel, speech and language specialists, and even deaf educators. The collaborative nature of the the project taught me that we can learn a great deal more together than we can as individuals. Unfortunately the only thing more difficult than changing the culture of a school is changing the culture of a school with a web site!

I have created this page as a starting point for learning about primary language development. The practice of language development and the sound theory behind it are discussed in this site. It is also a place for professional development where you may find and share ideas of how you develop language in your school s and classrooms. This site will challenge you to go beyond your own perspective when considering the importance of primary language development as well as give you a plethora of good ideas to promote language development in your own classroom. It also provides an excellent opportunity to network with schools and other teaching professionals both locally and internationally. Most importantly I hope this is a good resource that will help you provide your students with the best educational experience possible.
