Explore the Problem

What problems?

We all know when we have a problem, but are we truly experts at defining it?  A good way for a team to initiate the exploration of a particular issue, is to begin by asking what, where, when, who, and why questions in regards to the issue.  The team members should not place blame, but focus on the components of the problem.  Writing about the problem can be helpful in better defining it. There are many ways to accomplish this task: brainstorming, challenging known assumptions, or using a problem solving protocol, are just a few ways in which school professionals can investigate the problem. Another way a team can more clearly define a problem, is to use visualizing.  Visualization strategies help the team to better analyze the problem.
